Domaine Fourrier
With it being the middle of the game season it is naturally Red Burgundy season. One of my latest additions to our ever growing wine list is Domaine Fourrier’s delightful Gevrey Chambertin 2009.
Winemaker Jean-Marie Fourrier took over the domaine from his father in 1994 and is assisted by his sister Isabelle and English wife Vicki.
The majority of Jean-Marie’s vines were planted between the two world wars giving the grapes excellent concentration.
Jean-Marie is determined his Pinot Noir vines reveal their terroir, therefore huge emphasis is placed on the work in the vineyard. Once picked the grapes take a predominantly natural course with minimal intervention, but precise work. They then spend 18 untouched months in 20% new oak.
The resulting wines clearly illustrate their provenance. Bright in colour, pure, deep red fruit and a seamless, discreet tannin structure.
Once you’ve got past the tricky wax seal the wine is a corker!
