Then pop next door to the Gordon Russell Design Museum where you will be admitted free as a Russell’s guest. There you can see an exhibition featuring British and European ceramics and glass dating from the 1940s to the present day.

Examples from Ken Stradling’s remarkable collection of 20th century design, supplemented with items from the museum’s own collection, will be displayed on Gordon Russell furniture from the period.

The exhibition – “Crafting a Passion for Design”, runs from 20 September to 7 November.

After visiting the show, walk down to Broadway Modern to see the exhibition of work by Edward Noott RBSA, running from 20 September to 5 October.

Russell’s itself is the former home of furniture by Sir Gordon Russell, the twentieth century design pioneer schooled in the Arts and Crafts tradition.

After World War II, he helped bring Britain out of austerity by promoting and developing the design industry and had a profound influence on British industry, design and education.
